The clip we watched was from Canadian ecosocialist and activist Ian Angus, called “The Malthus Myth.” It can be found here or here.
An interesting reading that ties in to Angus’s talk is Nobel Laureate economist Amartya Sen’s “Population: Delusion and Reality;” both Sen and Angus discuss the significant of Condorcet’s ideas in contrast to Malthus. (Angus discusses this earlier in the clip, before the point we started watching in class.) Sen’s piece, while old, is equally worth reading today. (And a more recent piece on quality of life in India and China, although having less to do with population, builds on some of the points of his 1994 piece.)
